The Boy in the Bathroom explores the relationship between a young man who has locked himself in the bathroom due to his OCD and the woman his mother hires to help her around the house. Through the door of the bathroom, the two form an unlikely friendship.
For this set, I wanted to give each of the three characters their own distinct space to highlight the separation they are experiencing. While David and his mother spend the entire play apart, they are very similar so I gave both of their spaces a similar palette of blues and yellows. Julie comes and disrupts their lives and comes between them. Her hallway space using different colors and being positioned between the bathroom and kitchen helps visually tell this aspect of the story.
