Polkadots: The Cool Kids Musical follows Lily Polkadot as she works to find acceptance from her peers in the Squares Only town of Rockaway. Though she faces great obstacles and discrimination, Lily and her classmates discover that Squares and Polkadots are not that different after all.

For this design, I was inspired by children’s books and drawings. I aimed to create an environment that could be doodled by a child and thus drew from a limited pallet of basic primary colors. I used the periaktoi as a backdrop to aid in visually telling the story. As Lily becomes more integrated into the school, the squares slowly become circles until there is an even number of squares and circles in the final scene.
